Halloween Witch Cupcakes

Halloween Witch Cupcakes

Is Halloween Day also your favorite? Many people want to enjoy it, But they want to keep things simple. The goal would be the same for anyone making Halloween Witch Cupcakes for the first time.

If you want to do something interesting but also have issues with time, then these cupcakes are an ideal choice. They’re simpler to make than other Halloween cupcakes or cakes. In this article, I will teach you how to prepare them easily and simply.

There is no better occasion for creative baking than Halloween. Wicked Witch Cupcakes and Witch Hat Cupcakes are the two themes that are most frequently thought of when making witch cupcakes.

2 Main Themes In Halloween Witch Cupcakes

  1. Wicked Witch Cupcakes

They are fun and festive foodss that are perfect for Halloween! Their appearance is typically spooky, and they frequently use bright green frosting to make the traditional witchy feeling.

These cupcakes have a vibrant green icing on top & a rich chocolate flavor. You can also add fun Halloween sprinkles to make them even more exciting!

  1. Witch Hat Cupcakes

Witch Hat Cupcakes are ideal for Halloween or any other festive occasion because of their entertaining design. Each cupcake is topped with an edible witch’s hat, usually made from an ice cream cone coated in chocolate or colorful icing.

Note: I will try both themes Halloween Witch Cupcakes

1. Witch Cauldron Cupcakes

 Witch Cauldron Cupcakes Ingredients

Chocolate Cupcakes

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
  • 1.25 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Black gel food coloring (optional)

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 3.5 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • Neon green food coloring

Toppings and Assembly

  • Assorted Halloween sprinkles
  • Plastic black cauldrons for serving

Step By Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Chocolate Cupcakes

  1. First, preheat the oven to 350°F, then line a standard cupcake pan with paper liners. Therefore, they will come out easily after baking.
  2. Next, take a medium-sized bowl & whisk together all-purpose flour, unsweetened dark cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt & oil. It’ll make the dry mixture ready for the cupcakes.
  3. After that, move on to the wet ingredients. In a bowl, add 3/4 cup of buttermilk, 1/4 cup of vegetable oil, 2 large eggs (make sure they are at room temperature), 3/4 cup of hot water, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, & blend everything well.
  4. If you’d like to make them extra black in color, you can add black gel food coloring; it’s optional, but I personally use it for a better appearance.
  5. Mix the dry and wet ingredients slowly, stirring just enough to combine them. Make sure to mix only a little. Then, pour the batter into cupcake liners, filling them about two-thirds full, so there’s enough space to rise as they bake.
  6. Give the cupcakes 18 to 20 minutes to bake. You can check if they’re done by sticking a toothpick in the middle; if it comes out clean, they’re ready. Once baked, allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack before adding frosting

2. Make the Buttercream Frosting

  1. Beat 1 cup of softened butter in a large bowl on medium speed for 2 to 3 minutes. We need a creamy mixture.
  2. Slowly add 3.5 cups of sifted powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition and rubbing the sides of the bowl.
  3. Mix one tablespoon of vanilla extract & mix thoroughly.
  4. Add 2-3 tablespoons of milk or cream, one at a time, to reach a spreadable texture.
  5. Mix a few drops of neon green food coloring to reach the desired vibrant color. Adjust the amount for boldness.

3. Assemble the Witch Cauldron Cupcakes

Take your neon green buttercream after your cupcakes have cooled and you are ready to frost. Spoon the frosting into a piping bag or an offset spatula and spread it over the cupcake tops, covering them entirely and frosting with a smooth or slightly swirled finish.

After frosting, decorate with those Halloween cupcake toppings like Halloween-coloured sprinkles to make the cupcakes even more fun. There are various types of sprinkles that you can use for your cupcakes, such as ghost shapes, pumpkins, bats, and even eyeballs.

I do one thing here, which is my favorite 🙂. Put each frosted cupcake in a small black plastic cauldron to improve the theme. These little pots are ideal for cupcake placement because they blend well with the witchy concept of the delicious baked items.

2. Witch Hat Cupcakes

The second theme that is widely used, if I talk about myself, I have also prepared mostly this one, because making it is easier for me.

  • Chocolate melts or candy coating (for dipping)

  • Cream cheese frosting (colored green with food coloring)

Decorations

  • Candy eyes

Step-by-Step Instructions To Make Halloween Witch Hat Cupcakes

1. Bake the Cupcakes

First, you need to prepare your cupcakes. Make your favourite homemade cupcake recipe, or use a cake mix box for more time. Use the recipe or box guidelines to ensure you only fill each cupcake liner two-thirds full before placing it in the oven for baking.

Put the cupcakes in an oven preheated to 350°F (175°C) for the time indicated in the recipe or until a toothpick in the centre produces no wet batter (note: if you don’t know the toothpick method to check cake doneness, you can check my other blog, In which I shared the different method to check the cake doneness). It is advisable to let them cool before we decorate the cake with some icing.

2. Prepare Witch Hats

To make the witch hats:

  1. Start with mini sugar cones, which are like tiny ice cream cones.
  2. Melt some chocolate until it’s smooth, following the instructions on the package.
  3. Once the chocolate is melted, dip the pointed end of each sugar cone into the chocolate to cover it nicely.

After you’ve dipped the cones in chocolate, roll them in colourful sprinkles, or you can use edible glitter, too. I use it always to add some sparkle & fun to the hats. Well, this step is optional but can make them look even more festive.

Next, place the chocolate-covered sugar cone on top of a chocolate cookie like an Oreo. To help the cone stick, use a bit more melted chocolate as a “glue.” Let everything sit for a few minutes so it can set and harden.

3. Frost The Cupcakes

By now, the cake will be set, so we’ll prepare the frosting. You can start preparing it yourself if you want, and there’s no issue if you buy it from the store. Add more green food coloring for an enhancing look. After that, just smooth it out nicely.

After the cupcakes are cooling, put a big scoop of the green cream cheese frostings that you can pipe or spread onto each cupcake. If you’re using the piping bag, you can make it more elegant & swirl it in one go.

4. Assemble the Witch Hat Cupcakes

Hold the sugar cone and gently set it on top of the frosted cupcake for each prepared witch hat cookie. Tap slightly to make sure that the cap sits properly on the head.

Lastly, place the candy eyes at the topmost portion of the frosted cupcakes for the final garnishing. These little eyes will give your witch hat cupcakes that magical and somewhat spooky feel to make them perfect.

Final Words

Halloween witch cupcakes are definitely two of the most liked themes because they are ready in a short time and look very cute. If you can prepare something crazy in such a short time, what could be better than that? Which one will you try, and which do you think is easier? Remember to send me your review, please.
