How to Make a Milkshake

How to Make a Milkshake

I frequently want to drink something sweet after eating. To me, it works this way. But all of a sudden, a milkshake comes to mind. A single advantage is that milkshakes can be made with any fruit, like bananas, strawberries, and mangoes. Even milkshakes with chocolate & bananas taste great.

There are many kinds of milkshakes you can make, and I’ll share three easy recipes with you. The steps are quite similar; the key is to add your favorite flavor and how to make a milkshake just how you like it.

Why Everyone Loves Milkshakes

1) Quick and Easy to Prepare

After meals, I used to have a sweet drink, especially if I was quite exhausted. Then I thought, why not make a milkshake instead? After that, I replaced all my restaurant drinks with a simple homemade milkshake recipe. And it gets ready in just a few minutes.

2) Few Ingredients Required

The list of ingredients is small. The major ingredient is milk, but you can skip the cream if you do not have. You can add any flavor you like, like bananas for a banana shake or chocolate for a chocolate shake.

3) Customizable Options

The fact that this is customizable is its best feature. If you’d like, you can spread anything on top or add your preferred toppings. When I make this milkshake for myself, I keep it basic, but when I prepare it for friend & family, I decorate it properly. That’s what I like best about it.

Tips for Perfect Milkshakes

  1. Use Room Temperature Ice Cream

Before blending, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for five to ten minutes if you are making a milkshake. If you have a container of ice cream and need to make more milkshakes, it will take time to melt at room temperature.

You can divide it into small chunks. We need a slightly firm texture that is not too melted and not complicated.

  1. Milk Temperature Matters

The temperature of the milk is equally important. When making a milkshake, never use milk at room temperature; it will mix with the ice cream and turn it soupy, affecting the thickness. Try to keep the milk around 38°F.

  1. Overmixing Can Ruin Milkshake

Overmixing can ruin your milkshake. Do not run the blender continuously. Instead, blend in intervals of 15-30 seconds.

If you keep it running, the blades generate heat, causing the ice cream to melt and turning the milkshake soupy, no matter how good the milk quality you use.

  1. Freeze Glass

This step is my favorite, and you should follow it, especially when making milkshakes for your guests. Keep the glass in the freezer for 10-15 minutes When getting ready for the milkshake.

Then, when you pour the milkshake into it, you’ll feel that it stays cold for a long time, and the outer frosting remains intact, either.

However, please don’t keep the glass in the freezer for too long, or it might crack due to the cold.

  1. Milk Quality Matters

I experimented with different milk types before learning how much milk quality affects the milkshake. It will be creamier if you use full-fat milk. You can also use alternatives; each type of milk has its characteristics.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Too Thick

  1. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time.
  2. Mix between additions until you get actual consistency.

Too Thin

  1. Add ice cream 1/4 cup at a time.
  2. Prevent over-blending

Icy Texture

  1. Let ice cream soften only slightly.
  2. Use room temperature mix-ins.
  3. Blend quickly but simply.

Separation

  1. Blend ingredients more simply.
  2. Serve immediately.
  3. For a stable texture, add a tiny bit of corn syrup.

Some Health-Conscious Alternatives

  1. Oat milk is often the best choice for its creamy texture when replacing whole milk in milkshakes. Almond milk can work, too, particularly when used by baristas, but it may have a thinner consistency.
  2. Frozen yogurt adds probiotics while cutting calories and fat a great substitute for ice cream.
  3. Adding protein powder can transform your milkshake into a wholesome meal or post-workout beverage.
  4. Fresh fruits not only add nutrients but also natural sweetness & thickness. Frozen bananas create creaminess, while berries and mangoes boost flavor and color. For best results, use ripe fruits and consider freezing them.

Some suggested combinations I’d recommend

  • Frozen mango, vanilla protein powder, and oat milk
  • Frozen berries, Greek frozen yogurt, and honey
  • Frozen bananas, almond milk, and date syrup
